History of El Jardinet

Jardinet Restaurant, located in Vic, opened its doors on Good Friday, 1980. It is location in downtown, in the old part of the city between the Main Square (Plaça Major), the Cathedral, the Episcopal Museum and the Roman Temple. The name “El Jardinet” refers to the interior and private garden which, inside the house, preserves the original status; there are some historical documents which talk about the time in which the poet Josep Carner and his family spent time in this garden.

In the beginning, “El Jardinet” was opened by Víctor Vilanova and Maria-Dolors Pi under the commercial name of “Café-Restaurant El Jardinet”. On its commencement, the restaurant offered high quality cheese and pâté assortments and cold meat with a wide range of Spanish wines.

In the early years the “Jardinet Restaurant” was a meeting point for intellectuals within the city, musicians and leading theatre and cinema people of Spanish and Catalan nationality.

As time went by, “El Jardinet” began offering new and creative cuisine leaving the café services as part of the past. In the year 2000 an important change came about; the restaurant was rebuilt and Ivan Vilanova took over as the main chef in order to substitute 'Victor's father' who became part of the restaurant team.

Ivan Vilanova Pi has a broad professional experience and has worked in some of the most important restaurants of Catalonia, such as Racó de Can Fabes, Via Veneto, Neichel and Racó d'en Freixa... Ivan Vilanova Pi has been teaching in culinary schools as from the year 2000.

The restaurant has been experimenting a significant and positive change, in which we are extremely satisfied with. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers, friends and partners as without you none of this would be possible.
